We are a group of Christians who meet in Haslemere. There has been a Baptist Chapel in Haslemere on the same site for over 160 years.
The town of Haslemere may have changed beyond all recognition in this time, however the message that is preached from the pulpit remains the same. We believe the Word of God (Bible) to be necessary for all times and all people. We believe it is without error and it is the inspired Word of God. This is what governs and directs us as a Church.
‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved’ Acts 16:31
We preach Jesus Christ as the only Saviour of sinners. We have all broken the perfect standards which God our Creator has set out. As such we are all in Sin and under the condemnation of that condition. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and has come into this World to be the Perfect God-Man to die on the cross to save sinners. We believe that Jesus rose again thus proving his power and victory over Satan, death and hell and He is reigning in heaven as Lord. We believe that He is coming again and will judge the world in righteousness. It is therefore the responsibility of the Church to fulfill the great commission of Jesus to preach the Gospel to the entire world. This means warning men, women and children of the judgement to come and the refuge that is found in Jesus Christ alone. One man asked the Apostle Paul what must he do to be saved – the answer came ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved (Acts 16:31)’. There is a real place called hell that we need to be saved from, there is real salvation in Jesus Christ and there is a real place called heaven that we are saved to if we repent and believe the Gospel (Good News). It is with this in mind that we believe the necessity of the Lord’s people to bring God’s Truth to this generation.
We hold to a reverent and ordered style of worship which we believe is based upon the Word of God. We come to worship God each week in the way in which He has set out in the Bible. Worshiping God is the greatest thing a man or a woman can do.
We use the Authorised (King James) Version of the Bible, as we believe it to be the most accurate translation that we currently have in our English language. The hymn book we use is Christian Worship which incorporates a full metrical Psalter.
We are affiliated to the Grace Association but do have fellowship with other of the Lord’s people in different places. We hold as our statement of faith the 1966 Baptist Affirmation of Faith.
